Our history

J&E Sheet Metal started in Mossel Bay with a practical focus on sheet metal, roofing and steel structures for local homes and businesses. From the first years on this domain to today, the company has grown by keeping the work direct, accurate and suited to southern Cape conditions.

Our history

2013: A local name begins in Gouriqua Park

J&E Sheet Metal was founded in 2013 in Gouriqua Park, Mossel Bay, with a clear focus on practical metal work for the area. The early work centred on the jobs that matter on site every day, including custom flashings, gutters, roof sheets and steel components for buildings that had to stand up to wind, rain and coastal air.

The domain records show an early online presence in those years, and the business continued from that starting point rather than beginning again later. That matters to our customers because it shows continuity in the trade, not a short-term setup. From the start, the aim was to serve Mossel Bay and the southern Cape with proper measuring, careful fabrication and fitting that keeps water out and roofs working as they should.

2014 to 2016: Building trust through site work and repeat calls

As the business settled in, more of the work came from referrals and repeat customers. In a place like Mossel Bay, word moves quickly when a gutter overflows, a roof starts leaking or cladding is not finished properly. The team learned early that a good repair is not only about the part supplied, it is about the measuring, the fixing method and the follow-up when the job is done.

During these years the work pattern became more varied. A single week could include gutter replacement in Hartenbos, roof leak repairs in Great Brak River and wall cladding installation on a new build near George. That mix helped shape the business into one that could handle both small maintenance jobs and larger steel-building work without losing attention to detail.

  • Site measuring for new and existing buildings
  • Custom flashings made to suit the roof profile on site
  • Gutter fabrication and replacement for coastal properties
  • Roof sheet installation and cladding for homes and workshops

2017 to 2019: From sheet metal work to full steel structures

By the later 2010s, the company was taking on more steel frame erection and carport installation work. This was a natural next step because many customers needed more than one trade to finish a project properly. A carport in Wilderness, for example, has to be measured for the available space, aligned to the site levels and built in a way that handles sun, salt air and strong wind.

These years also strengthened the workshop side of the business. Better planning in the workshop meant cleaner fabrication and fewer delays on site. That helped when scheduling work around weather, deliveries and load-shedding, which can affect cutting, fixing and transport if you do not plan ahead. It also gave the team more control over quality before materials left Gouriqua Park.

  • Steel frame erection for small buildings and additions
  • Carports for homes, guest houses and workshop yards
  • Improved workshop coordination for quicker turnaround
  • More work across Mossel Bay, George and Sedgefield

2020 to 2021: Staying dependable through harder working conditions

The early 2020s brought difficult working conditions for many businesses, and the trade side was no different. Jobs still had to be measured, materials still had to be cut and roofs still needed fixing. J&E Sheet Metal continued by staying practical and organised, with a strong focus on maintenance inspections and repairs that kept buildings weather-tight.

For coastal towns, this period highlighted the value of proper maintenance. Salt air can speed up wear on gutters, flashings and fixings, and a small issue can become a major one if it is left for too long. The team continued to help property owners in Mossel Bay and the surrounding area with inspections, leak repairs and replacements that could be planned around the customer’s budget and schedule. This is the sort of work that gets missed until the rain starts, then its urgent.

2022 to 2024: A stronger team with clearer roles

As the business grew, the team became more structured and each person took on a clear role. Johan Petrus Botha leads as Managing Director, with Leandri van Wyk managing operations, Carla April handling estimating, Ruan Goliath leading the workshop, Mziwoxolo Ndamase supervising sites and Siphesihle Mbatha handling roofing and cladding installation. That kind of structure helps when several jobs are running at once across the southern Cape.

Clear roles also make it easier to keep customers informed. A homeowner in Hartenbos wants to know when measuring will happen. A contractor in George wants the estimate turned around on time. A site in Mossel Bay needs the installer to arrive with the right materials and fixings. The business has grown by keeping those basics in place, and by making sure the person on site and the person in the workshop are working from the same information.

  • Better estimating and scheduling for active sites
  • More co-ordination between workshop and installation teams
  • Regular maintenance inspections for local property owners
  • Ongoing service in Mossel Bay, Hartenbos and Great Brak River

Today: Still shaped by Mossel Bay conditions

Today J&E Sheet Metal continues from the earlier years on this domain as a Mossel Bay-based business with regional reach. The work remains grounded in the same needs that started the company in the first place: measured properly, made to fit and installed so it lasts. Whether the job is gutter fabrication, wall cladding, roof sheet installation or a full steel frame, the approach is still hands-on and practical.

Working from Gouriqua Park keeps the business close to the local roads, building sites and property owners it serves. That local base matters when weather changes quickly, when a repair needs a fast response or when a contractor needs materials prepared without delay. It also helps the team stay familiar with municipal requirements and the way coastal properties age differently from inland buildings. In this part of the world, you learn to respect wind, corrosion and water flow, otherwise they will remind you.

What has stayed the same since the early years

Even though the business has grown, the core idea has not changed. Good sheet metal and steel-building work still depends on accurate measuring, sound fabrication and careful installation. That applies to a small flashing repair just as much as it does to a large carport or a new steel structure.

The continuity of J&E Sheet Metal gives customers confidence that they are dealing with a business that has been present through the years, not one that appears only when demand is high. The company’s history is tied to the southern Cape, to Mossel Bay conditions and to the everyday jobs that keep roofs dry and buildings in good order.
